Glass splashbacks are a stylish, easy-to-clean solution for kitchen or bathroom walls—and while they’re often seen as expensive, they don’t have to be. For most kitchens, installing a glass splashback is as simple as measuring a rectangle and attaching it to the wall. Some layouts can be a bit more complex, but don’t worry—we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Rectangular Splashback

Height Measurements (H1 and H2):

Since cooker hoods and worktops are not always perfectly level, there may be a slight difference between the height measurements on each side. If this difference is less than 2mm, you can simply use the shorter measurement for ease. However, if you prefer a more precise fit, we recommend providing a drawing that indicates any taper or run-off. In either case, be sure to measure both sides for accuracy.

Width Measurements (W1 and W2):

As with the height, there may be a minor variation between the width at the top and bottom. It’s always a good idea to check both points to ensure the most accurate fit.

Allowance for Expansion and Glass Size Tolerance:

Most kitchens are constructed with wood or wood-based materials, which naturally expand and contract over time due to changes in temperature and humidity. To accommodate these slight shifts, we recommend deducting 2mm from each of your measurements (H1, H2, W1, and W2). If you skip this step and the glass is installed with a tight fit, even a 1mm expansion in your cabinetry could cause the glass to crack or break.

How to fit

Installing glass splashbacks is a straightforward process. The following instructions apply to a simple rectangular splashback, a glass upstand, or even a full wall glass splashback.

Tools Required:

Silicone gun
Neutral cure silicone adhesive

Installation Steps:

Step 1: Prepare the Wall Surface

Before starting, ensure the wall is relatively even and clean. Remove any dust, grease, or bumps.
If two splashbacks are to meet at a corner, check that no bump or hollow could cause misalignment.
While the wall doesn’t need to be perfectly flat, any uneven spots can be adjusted by applying more adhesive in hollow areas and less in raised areas.

Step 2: Apply Silicone Adhesive

Lay the glass splashback face-down on a clean, soft surface (like a towel) to avoid scratches.
Using neutral cure, solvent-free silicone, apply evenly sized blobs (approximately 20mm wide) spaced about 100mm apart across the back of the glass.
Avoid placing blobs too close to the edges to prevent adhesive from oozing out when pressing the glass onto the wall.

Step 3: Mount the Splashback

Carefully lift and press the glass splashback against the wall. Apply gentle and even pressure to bond the silicone to the wall surface.
Let the splashback set undisturbed for at least 24 hours to allow the adhesive to cure properly.

Step 4: Seal the Edges

Once the adhesive has fully cured, apply a neat bead of the same neutral cure silicone around all edges of the glass to create a clean, professional finish and prevent moisture from seeping behind.
